about

This is the fourth and final movement of a double bass ensemble suite I wrote for Deep Tones For Peace 2020, put together by Mark Dresser and Fumiko Wellington.

This was written during the Covid-19 pandemic. I imagine whales talking to each other at their own, incredibly slow pace. A few big waves disrupt them, but they are left unfazed, and they are ultimately at one with the water around them. This has nothing to do with the pandemic, except that maybe we can all learn from these whales to be patient and find peace in each other during turbulent times.

This is Lo-fi Japanese Ambient Contrabass Music:
Lo-fi because it's homemade in my apartment in Brooklyn, street noise included.
Japanese because I'm Japanese.
Ambient because it's ambient.
Contrabass because that's the instrument I'm playing.

Music:

Lo-fi because it's homemade in my apartment in Brooklyn, street noise included.

Japanese because I'm Japanese, and the pacing follows a distinctly Japanese aesthetic.

Ambient because the focus is mostly textural and atmospheric.

Contrabass because that's the instrument I'm playing.
