about

This movement is based on music I started to hear in my head a few months into the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020. There's a mournful quality to it, and in hindsight I think it was my version of the blues I was feeling at the time.

Textures are created by layering tightly voiced chords in the upper register, while the bow sings the blues in its own, raw language. The pizzicato bass enters midway in the low register, with another song, sentimental, tangled and trapped.

I call this Lo-fi Japanese Ambient Contrabass Music:
Lo-fi because it's homemade in my apartment in Brooklyn, street noise included.
Japanese because I'm Japanese.
Ambient because it's ambient.
Contrabass because that's the instrument I'm playing.

Ambient because the focus is mostly textural and atmospheric.

Contrabass because that's the instrument I'm playing.
